Deputy Head Gardener Job Description

The Burford Recruitment Company is delighted to work on behalf of a prestigious private estate, seeking a Deputy Head Gardener to assist the Head Gardener and Parkland in leading the team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Head of Gardens and Parkland to ensure the garden and walled garden are developed and maintained impeccably.
  • Take a hands-on approach in leading the garden team, ensuring effective and professional work standards.
  • Oversee the line management of all garden staff, including planning rotas, holidays, and shifts.
  • Work with the Head of Gardens and Parkland on project planning and execution.
  • Manage contractors working within the gardens to maintain aesthetic standards.
  • Uphold all health & safety regulations and ensure compliance among team members.
  • Oversee the purchasing of materials and uniforms, and ensure all equipment is properly maintained.
  • Prune and maintain a variety of plants, manage soil and bed preparation, and oversee pest control.
