About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Contracts Lawyer to join our growing legal team at Barnsley Council. As a key member of our Commercial team, you will play a vital role in providing expert advice on commercial contracts and public procurement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of Contracts Lawyers and Legal Assistants, providing guidance and support to ensure the successful delivery of projects.
  • Work closely with senior management to develop and implement commercial strategies, including procurement and contract negotiation.
  • Deputise for the Principal Lawyer and support Lawyers in the team, providing expert advice on complex contracts and projects.
  • Draft and negotiate commercial contracts, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Advise on all aspects of public procurement, including tendering and contract management.
  • Deal with funding and grant agreements, ensuring effective management of resources.
  • Provide advice to a range of stakeholders, including senior management, councillors, and external partners.
  • Advising on complex/multi-million pound projects, ensuring successful outcomes.
