Senior Childcare Lawyer Opportunity

Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an experienced Childcare Lawyer to join their Legal Team.

The role offers a competitive salary of £48,474 - £51,515 per annum, with the possibility of pay award pending.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of lawyers and paralegals, handling complex care matters, and advising Social Services clients on relevant legislation.

The main duties include:

  • Directly managing 3 Childcare Lawyers, 1 paralegal, and 1 legal assistant.
  • Allocating work, supporting personal development, and conducting 1:1 meetings.
  • Deputising for the principal lawyer and providing training and guidance to junior colleagues.
  • Handling complex cases involving adoption, catastrophic injury, fatalities, and international elements.
  • Undertaking advocacy in the Family Court and preparing legal documentation.
  • Advising Social Services clients on all aspects of child protection law.

Requirements:

To be considered for this opportunity, candidates must be qualified solicitors or legal executives with current practicing certificates and experience in Childcare Law from either private or local authority practice.
