The Commercial Services Group, a leading provider of essential services, is seeking a Senior Statutory Officer to join their team. As a key member of the Schools Financial Services team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective operation of key financial controls within local schools.

About the Role

The successful candidate will provide essential statutory support and financial advice to Headteachers and Governors, assisting them in meeting their financial responsibilities. Your responsibilities will include developing and managing the financial assessments for Headteacher recruitment, overseeing traded, statutory, and discretionary services, and supervising the auditing of voluntary funds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise a team of Officers to deliver financial services, ensuring compliance with Local Authority and DfE financial controls.
  • Support and advise Headteachers, Governors, finance staff, and colleagues on statutory returns, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
  • Manage the planning, timing, and analysis of financial returns from schools, designing and adapting processes as necessary.
  • Reconcile procedures relating to the Local Authority's control accounts, ensuring completeness and accuracy at all times.
  • Plan, coordinate, manage, and moderate compliance visits and follow-ups to schools, ensuring predefined procedures are followed.
  • Manage, develop, and moderate Year End audits on Schools' Voluntary Funds, checking accounts and signing off with a certificate.

Requirements:

  • Financial qualification or experience working in a school finance department.
  • Proficient use of IT, including Microsoft Office packages, especially Excel.
  • A good understanding of national and local policies, financial controls, and procedures.
  • Strong customer relationship skills.
  • Research, analytical, and interpretive skills.
  • Ability to travel to any school across Kent.
