Mental Health Support Volunteer

We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic individual to support our peer support group as a Mental Health Support Volunteer.

As a Mental Health Support Volunteer, you will play a vital role in creating a safe and welcoming environment for group members. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Welcoming new group members and explaining the group framework to them.
  • Assisting the facilitators in preparing and tidying the group room.
  • Providing emotional support and problem-solving techniques to group members as needed.
  • Assisting with the collection of demographic data and feedback.
  • Briefly overseeing the group when the facilitator needs to speak privately with a group member.

As a Mental Health Support Volunteer, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills and experience in a supportive and non-judgmental environment. You will be part of a team that is dedicated to helping others make the journey towards wellness.

Key skills and qualities required for this role include:

  • Personal, first-hand experience of mental health problems and some experience of recovery.
  • Active listening and communication skills.
  • Respect for all individuals.
  • Reliability and commitment.
  • A basic understanding of mental health problems and services offered by Big Life Centres.

We are looking for someone who is willing to commit to a regular schedule, ideally every Thursday from 1-3pm at No.93 Healthy Living Centre. As a Mental Health Support Volunteer, you will have the opportunity to participate in training offered by the Big Life Group to further develop your skills and knowledge.
