Job Summary

The University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Biomedical Scientist to lead the Biochemistry Department's diagnostic services. As a key member of the laboratory team, you will be responsible for supervising and organizing technical diagnostic services, ensuring high-quality diagnostic services, and maintaining current accreditation standards.

About the Role

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Biomedical Scientist to take on a leadership role in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. You will work closely with the laboratory team to develop and implement strategies to improve service provision, maintain accreditation standards, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and organize technical diagnostic services within the Biochemistry Department.
  • Undertake routine and complex analytical techniques to maintain service provision.
  • Ensure current accreditation standards are adhered to throughout the department.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve service provision and maintain accreditation standards.
  • Work closely with the laboratory team to ensure effective communication and collaboration.

Person Specification

Essential

  • BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Postgraduate qualification in Biochemistry or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Managerial or leadership qualification.
  • Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) Specialist Diploma in Biochemistry or equivalent.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Previous experience of working in a Biochemistry Medical Laboratory.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize workload, and work to deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately with all levels of staff.

Personal Qualities

Essential

  • Able to work individually and as part of a team, with the ability to plan, supervise, and organize basic grade, trainee BMS, and support grade staff in their day-to-day work.
  • Able to utilize initiative to solve problems and develop the service.
  • Prepared to work flexibly, including participation in a shift pattern which includes early, late, weekend, and Bank Holiday shifts and other out-of-hours rotas as required.
