About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Psychiatrist to join our team as an Inpatient Consultant at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment, delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide medical leadership for Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with ward staff, community teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, develop treatment plans, and provide evidence-based interventions for patients on the ward.
  • Support ward-based staff in managing psychiatric emergencies, including crisis interventions and de-escalation techniques.
  • Lead multidisciplinary ward reviews, CPA reviews, and multi-professional meetings, ensuring seamless coordination of care and timely discharge planning.
  • Be responsible for the purposes of the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007), carrying out duties in accordance with the Code of Practice and maintaining accurate records.
  • Maintain a high level of effective communication, working flexibly and cooperatively with other parts of the service, including other wards, community mental health teams, and primary care.
  • Liaise with families and carers, providing regular updates and support throughout the patient's journey.
  • Complete reports for Mental Health Tribunals, working collaboratively with the Staff Grade doctor to ensure comprehensive documentation.
  • Attend Mental Health Tribunals or supervise other members of the medical team in Tribunal work, assessing for the use of the Mental Health Act, completing consent to treatment, and authorizing Section 17 leave.

Person Specification

  • Medical Degree (essential)
  • MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists (desirable)

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this role is £85,000 - £115,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus benefits including a generous pension scheme, annual leave, and opportunities for professional development.
