About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Occupational Therapist to join our team at Schoen Clinic York. As a key member of our dementia care unit, you will be responsible for assessing and treating patients for professional occupational therapy services in a specialist setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake occupational therapy assessments to address occupational performance and skill deficits, enabling patients to maintain their independence and engage in productive and leisure activities.
  • Work collaboratively with peers and patients to provide and receive complex and sensitive information concerning patient history.
  • Recommend special equipment and instruct patients on its safe and effective use.
  • Take a holistic approach to patient care, considering physical, social, psychological, and environmental factors to develop a comprehensive treatment plan.
  • Supervise the work of OT assistants, students, and support workers, ensuring high-quality care and support.
  • Ensure effective communication of patient concerns and changes to care plans.
  • Conduct regular equipment testing and maintain accurate records.
  • Participate in clinical audit, programme review, and outcome measure analysis to drive continuous improvement.
  • Manage patient and budgetary records, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will possess a degree or equivalent, with a solid understanding of UK mental health laws. They should demonstrate proficiency in manual skills, interpersonal communication, teamwork, adaptability, decision-making, and report writing. Familiarity with mental health practice models and the ability to engage with patients effectively are essential. A strong interest or experience in a specific patient group or specialisation, supported by theory and knowledge, is also desirable.
