Job Description

Job Title: Engineering Manager

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to join our team at Proactive Global. As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers responsible for ensuring the productivity and output of distribution systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate the activities of your shift team through effective planning and organization.
  • Train, coach, and mentor your shift team to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties.
  • Perform performance management, including formal reviews, to ensure team members are meeting expectations.
  • Analyze data sources to maintain and improve performance, maximizing efficiency of operation in line with KPIs.
  • Champion safe working practices and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Carry out maintenance and servicing of all onsite automated equipment.
  • Perform planned repairs and reactive repairs of automated material handling equipment, including tote conveyors, spiral conveyors, sorters, shuttles, and robotics.
  • Fault-find and diagnose mechanical and/or electrical faults.
  • Respond to automation faults and breakdowns in a timely manner, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Actively work to optimize automation performance.
  • Complete all reports in line with requirements using CMMS and Microsoft software packages.
  • Support service tracking and analysis of error rates, and assist in the production of corrective action plans.
  • Comply with health and safety legislation and oversee hazardous tasks and PTW.
  • Lead the shift handover meeting and support other site meetings as required.
  • Maintain strong communication lines with the Automation manager and the Head of Automation.

Requirements:

  • Time served apprenticeship or equivalent.
  • City & Guilds/NVQ level 3 or above in maintenance mechanical/electrical discipline.
  • Previous experience within an FMCG manufacturing or automated warehousing environment (desirable).
  • Desirable: 18th edition, ONC/HNC, multiskilled, experience in using PLCs and diagnostics, experience in training/coaching.
  • Smart appearance, professional behavior, and respectful attitude to all people.
  • Prior experience in a leadership position within Automation.
  • Relevant Engineering qualification.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, always looking for ways to optimize our Automation operation.
  • Strong communication skills, able to build relationships with technical and non-technical staff.
  • An inspirational leader who is able to coach and mentor their team to success, able to have difficult conversations and performance manage where needed.
