About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and dynamic Senior Nurse to play a key role in developing the Gastroenterology Services at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for working as part of the gastroenterology speciality nursing team and providing clinical support, as well as leadership to the team alongside the nurse consultant. Additionally, the role will involve providing matron support to the Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital, sitting under gastroenterology.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years at Band 7 (or higher clinical grade) in a hospital setting, with extensive post-registration experience and a strong background in gastroenterology. They will be able to evidence continuous quality improvement, resolve user concerns effectively, and demonstrate a patient and carer-centred approach. Strong IT skills, highly developed verbal and written communication skills, influencing and negotiating skills, and the ability to handle difficult situations with tact and diplomacy are essential.

Main Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring best practice within Infection Prevention and Control and Clinical Governance. They will need to monitor incidents and complaints, manage them in a timely way, and respond appropriately. Additionally, they will be required to implement and evaluate nursing care throughout the service, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care. This will involve providing leadership and support to professional and direct care staff working in Gastroenterology at William Harvey Hospital, Canterbury Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital, and the Gastroenterology outpatient Department. They will also need to support and provide leadership to the IBD nursing specialist and the Hepatology nursing specialist across the Gastroenterology service.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in gastroenterology, with a minimum of three years at Band 7 (or higher clinical grade) in a hospital setting. They will need to demonstrate a patient and carer-centred approach, clinical credibility, and knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice. Strong IT skills, highly developed verbal and written communication skills, influencing and negotiating skills, and the ability to handle difficult situations with tact and diplomacy are essential. Additionally, they will need to be able to evidence continuous quality improvement, resolve user concerns effectively, and demonstrate a strong commitment to the values of East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust.
