Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team at Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as a Cancer Support Worker. This is a fixed-term position for 12 months, offering a great chance to gain experience in cancer care and make a real difference in the lives of patients and their families.

Main Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with Clinical Nurse Specialists to support patients diagnosed with cancer, providing emotional and practical support throughout their treatment journey.
  • Coordinate patient care, ensuring seamless transitions between services and facilitating effective communication between healthcare professionals.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of care plans, working closely with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic and person-centered care.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families, promoting self-management and empowerment.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, contributing to the development of policies and procedures that enhance patient care and experience.
Requirements
  • Relevant health or social care experience, preferably in a cancer care setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, prioritizing patient needs and contributing to a positive and supportive work environment.
  • Knowledge of cancer care pathways and treatment options, with a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
