About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Histopathologist to join our team at Poundbury Cancer Institute. As a key member of our department, you will play a vital role in providing a comprehensive histopathology reporting service, contributing to the diagnostic histopathology service, and participating in multi-disciplinary team meetings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the diagnostic histopathology service, providing high-quality reports and participating in MDT meetings.
  • Act as lead Histopathologist for at least one specialist area, covering PCI multidisciplinary team commitments.
  • Participate in clinical audit, research studies, clinical governance, and teaching as appropriate.
  • Take part in histopathology EQA schemes and other activities that ensure continuing professional development.
  • Carry out teaching, examination, and QA duties for contributing to undergraduate, post-graduate, and continuing medical education activity.
Clinical Care

The duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service.

  • Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.
  • Development of sub-specialty interests that fit in with PCI needs and the strategic direction of PCI, including active participation in audit.
  • Participation in clinical audit and in continuing medical education.
  • Providing evidence-based care for patients in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Conducting suitable duties in cases of emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
Management and Leadership Responsibilities

All consultants in Cellular Pathology are accountable through the Clinical Director to the PCI Board. Consultants are key members of the PCI Management team and are accountable and responsible for leading changes to service that will improve the patient experience.

  • Support the Clinical Lead in policy and strategy development as a senior member of the PCI Management Team.
  • Contribute to the leadership and development of histopathology under the direction of the Clinical Lead and Associate Medical Director and in line with the Trust's Business Plans.
  • Ensure effective communication and involvement of staff across PCI, including support to the Laboratory Director to achieve their objectives.
  • Work in partnership with colleagues within PCI.
  • Assist in the cost-effective utilisation of resources.
  • Work within PCI's framework for Clinical Governance and Risk, including the development of clinical and laboratory policies and adherence to standing orders, standing financial instructions, and financial procedures.
  • Provision of cover for Consultant colleagues' periods of leave in accordance with arrangements agreed within PCI.
Professional Responsibilities

There is a requirement to participate in continuing medical education using the Royal College of Pathologists scheme and consultants participate in specialised EQA schemes relating to their areas of interest.

There is a requirement to subscribe and maintain your GMC registration through annual appraisal and revalidation process.
