Job Title: Consultant in Palliative Medicine

We are seeking an exceptional Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join our team at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our department, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to patients with palliative and end-of-life needs.

About the Role

This is a new substantive post within the department of Palliative and End of Life Care, reflecting the Trust's commitment to delivering the best care for our patients and their loved ones in their last years of life. You will work closely with other Consultants to provide a consultant-led multi-disciplinary specialist palliative and end-of-life care service within the acute hospital, extending to the Intermediate Care Centre on the hospital site.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist advice, support, and education throughout the hospital, with a focus on the front door, which has undergone a £30 million facelift, including a thoughtful structured process for people with palliative and end-of-life needs.
  • Lead a multi-professional team and take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
  • Undertake palliative care assessments in various settings, including hospice, outpatient clinics, hospital wards, and community.
  • Contribute to medical audit, service improvement, and integration initiatives.
  • Support the Clinical Lead in policy and strategy development as a senior member of the Division Management Team.
Requirements
  • GMC registration.
  • CCT or equivalent.
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent.
  • Advanced communication skills.
  • Certificate/Diploma in Palliative Care.
  • Postgraduate teaching qualification.
Person Specification
  • Ability to lead a multi-professional team and take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
  • Ability to undertake palliative care assessments in a variety of settings.
  • Clinical training/experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT/CESR or within 6 months of obtaining CCT/CESR.
  • Expertise in full range of Palliative Medicine conditions.
