About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal Civil Engineer - Water Design Lead to join our design team in the UK as part of a multi-disciplinary department providing detailed designs for water-related projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as Lead Design Engineer on non-infrastructure projects, undertaking and checking the delivery of design solutions and associated outputs.
  • Provide technical guidance, support, and training to colleagues and assist in mentoring and the development of others.
  • Support the Project Manager in clarifying project briefs, agreeing deliverables, key milestones, project methodology, quality assurance, and control strategy.
  • Undertake significant elements of detailed design and checking of outputs as directed, including calculations, drawings, sketches, and reports.
  • Assess, document, and communicate design changes to the Project Manager.
  • Take personal responsibility for delivering work to agreed time, cost, and quality requirements.
  • Attend close-out meetings and recommend/implement improvements to policy, processes, and project management methods.
  • Assist with business development activities, including preparing capability statements and submitting pre-qualification questionnaires, expressions of interest, and tenders.

Requirements

  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards with a relevant institution (e.g., ICE or CIWEM).
  • Strong interpersonal/team working skills, with a good working relationship with all levels of the organization, clients, and contractors.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience of water and wastewater non-infrastructure design, including an understanding of the basics and the integration of multidisciplinary elements (process engineering and MEICA).
  • Extensive experience in design, contract, and tender preparation, tender assessment, and contract administration.
