About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal Civil Engineer to join our water engineering team in Bristol. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for leading the delivery of design solutions and associated outputs for non-infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as Lead Design Engineer and undertake and check the delivery of design solutions and associated outputs and the co-ordination with other disciplines.
  • Provide technical guidance, support and training to colleagues and assist, where practicable, in mentoring and the development of others.
  • Be involved in projects from conception to completion, including supporting the Project Manager to clarify the project brief, agree deliverables, key milestones, project methodology, quality assurance and control strategy.
  • Undertake significant elements of the detailed design and the checking of outputs as directed, including calculations, drawings, sketches, reports, etc.
  • Assess, document and communicate design changes to the Project Manager.
  • Be aware of work requirements and take personal responsibility in delivering this to agreed time, cost and quality requirements.
  • Attend close-out meetings and recommend/implement improvements to policy, processes and project management methods.
  • Be involved in business development activities, including assisting with the preparation of capability statements and the submission of pre-qualification questionnaires, expressions of interest and tenders.

Requirements

  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards with a relevant institution, such as ICE or CIWEM.
  • Strong interpersonal/team working skills, with a good working relationship with all levels of the organisation, clients and contractors, together with the ability to communicate in a fluent and positive manner both verbally and written.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience of water and wastewater non-infrastructure design, including an understanding of the basics and the integration of multidisciplinary elements, including process engineering and MEICA.
  • Extensive experience in design, contract and tender preparation, tender assessment and contract administration.
