Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated Aquatic Ecology Consultant to join our dynamic team, with a preference for candidates located in key areas.

This role involves conducting fieldwork in aquatic environments, producing reports, analyzing data, and coordinating efforts for both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring high standards of technical quality while adhering to project timelines and budgets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting aquatic assessments in freshwater systems.
  • Collaborating with various environmental professionals on diverse projects, regardless of scale.
  • Collecting and processing freshwater macroinvertebrate samples in laboratory settings, performing benthic macroinvertebrate surveys, and assisting with field sampling (including macroinvertebrates, macrophytes, phytobenthos, fisheries, and water quality).
  • Supporting data entry, analysis, and processing for freshwater initiatives, contributing to survey documentation and ecological evaluations while liaising with project leads and clients.
  • Delivering consultancy and advisory services with a strong emphasis on technical excellence, prioritizing safety and security in all operations.
  • Assisting in field sampling and data analysis for freshwater projects, covering various ecological aspects.
  • Contributing to literature reviews and desk studies.
  • Participating in data collection, organization, and presentation, ensuring survey reports and ecological assessments meet high technical standards and deadlines.
  • Assisting in the creation of Environmental Impact Assessment documents in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Engaging with the broader Water Environment Team, project managers, and clients as necessary.

Team Integration:

As part of our team, you will engage in monitoring and impact assessment projects for various stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and private sector clients.

Our Aquatic Ecology division comprises over 20 specialists across the UK, supported by laboratories in strategic locations.

Qualifications:

We are looking for candidates who are self-sufficient, embrace challenges, and enjoy collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. Adaptability and flexibility are essential to meet varying demands, which may include occasional extended hours and travel.

  • Experience in aquatic ecology assessments, including fish, macroinvertebrates, and other relevant species.
  • A degree or higher qualification in a relevant field, with some prior experience in aquatic ecology or a related area.
  • Membership in a professional body, or eligibility for membership.
  • Relevant training, such as Water Safety and First Aid.
  • Familiarity with current environmental regulations, including the Water Framework Directive.
  • Ability to maintain strong client relationships, providing timely ecological responses and advice as needed.
  • Willingness to travel to various sites.
