Aquatic Ecologist Opportunity at AECOM

We are seeking a highly skilled Aquatic Ecologist to join our team at AECOM, a leading infrastructure consulting firm. As a key member of our team, you will work on monitoring and impact assessment projects for Water Companies, Regulators, and private clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct aquatic surveys in freshwaters, including fish, macroinvertebrates, crayfish, macrophytes, and riparian mammals.
  • Work with other environmental specialists and disciplines on important projects, large and small.
  • Collect and process freshwater macroinvertebrate samples in the laboratory, undertaking benthic macroinvertebrate surveys in freshwaters.
  • Assist with data entry, analysis, and processing for freshwater projects, contributing to survey reports and ecological appraisals.
  • Deliver consultancy and advisory services to a high level of technical quality, prioritizing safety and security in all work.
Requirements:
  • Experience in aquatic ecology surveys, including fish, macroinvertebrates, crayfish, macrophytes, and riparian mammals.
  • Qualified to degree level or MSc, or higher, in a relevant subject with some previous experience in an aquatic ecology or similar role.
  • Relevant training, potentially including Water Safety, First Aid.
  • Knowledge of current environmental legislation, including the Water Framework Directive.
