We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Laboratory Scientist to lead our Metabolic Section in Chemical Pathology at Great Ormond Street Hospital. The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership, expert knowledge, and training to the team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality laboratory services.
Main Responsibilities- Provide clinical leadership to the Metabolic Section, reviewing and progressing existing methodologies as needed.
- Engage with key users of the service, training and educating staff within the department.
- Participate in rotas covering reporting, duty scientist, and out-of-hours advice services.
- Develop and implement quality assurance and management systems, ensuring compliance with ISO 15189 standards.
- BSc(Hons) in Biochemistry or related discipline (1st or 2nd class).
- MSc in Clinical Biochemistry or equivalent skills and experience.
- Actively working towards FRCPath or equivalent experience.
- HCPC Clinical Scientist Registration: training/assessment completed in a Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) meeting the minimum requirement of the Royal College of Pathologists (RCPath).
- Experience of managing a specialist area/section of a laboratory.
- Experience of managing staff and conducting research and presenting findings.
- Advanced specialist knowledge of analytical techniques used in Laboratory Medicine.
- Advanced specialist knowledge of Metabolic Disorders and Clinical Biochemistry.
- Knowledge of clinical medicine and paediatrics.
- Thorough working knowledge of NHS Pathology laboratories and Quality assurance/management including ISO 15189 standards.
We offer a competitive salary of £70,387 to £80,465 per annum, a permanent contract, and a full-time working pattern. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to work in a stimulating environment with a close and friendly team of clinical scientists.
