Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced ASD Teacher to join our team at a secondary school in South Shields. As an ASD Teacher, you will play a vital role in developing and implementing individualized programs for students with ASD, ensuring their academic and social success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and Implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
    • Design and implement tailored IEPs for each student with ASD, setting specific, measurable goals.
  • Adapt Curriculum Materials
    • Modify curriculum materials to meet the individual needs of students with varying levels of ability.
  • Implement and Monitor Behavior Management Plans
    • Develop and implement individualized behavior management plans to support students with ASD.
  • Communicate with Parents and Caregivers
    • Maintain regular communication with parents and caregivers, providing updates on student progress and strategies to support learning at home.
  • Record Student Progress
    • Keep accurate and detailed records of student progress and development.
  • Stay Current with Best Practices
    • Stay up-to-date with best practices in ASD education, attending relevant training and professional development opportunities.
  • Classroom Environment
    • Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student growth and development.

Requirements

  • Qualifications
    • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Experience
    • Previous experience working with students with ASD in a secondary school setting.
  • Specialized Knowledge
    • A certification in special education, with a focus on ASD is preferred but not compulsory.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of students with ASD.
    • Patience and empathy to effectively support students.
    • Excellent communication skills to interact with students, parents, and colleagues.
    • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
