Job Title: ASD Teacher

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced ASD Teacher to join our secondary school community in South Shields.

About the Role

As an ASD Teacher, you will develop and implement individualized programs for the education of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). You will work closely with students, their parents, and other colleagues to provide individual support and guidance necessary for students to succeed both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement tailored Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student with ASD, setting specific, measurable goals.
  • Adapt curriculum materials to meet the individual needs of students with varying levels of ability.
  • Implement and monitor individualized behavior management plans.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents and caregivers, providing updates on progress and strategies to support learning at home.
  • Keep accurate and detailed records of student progress and development.
  • Stay current with best practices in ASD education.
  • Maintain a positive environment within the classroom that encourages student growth.
Requirements
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working with students with ASD in a secondary school setting.
  • A certification in special education, with a focus on ASD is preferred but not compulsory.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of students with ASD.
  • Patience and empathy to effectively support students.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
