Job Title: Student Counsellor

Job Summary:

WhereToTalk is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Student Counsellor to join our team. As a Student Counsellor, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality counselling and support services to students, ensuring their mental health and wellbeing needs are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial assessments of students presenting with emotional difficulties to assess their needs, monitor risk, and offer appropriate responses.
  • Provide high-quality counselling and support services to students, adhering to professional practice and ethical frameworks.
  • Liaise with Wellbeing colleagues, academic staff, and external services to negotiate appropriate support and responses for individual students.
  • Develop and deliver training materials and workshops to support student wellbeing.
  • Work collaboratively with the Counselling Manager and other professional staff to develop and implement service development initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide written reports as required.

Requirements:

  • Professional counselling qualification.
  • BACP accredited counsellor, UKCP registered psychotherapist, or HCPC registered counselling psychologist or eligible for such accreditation.
  • Extensive experience in providing counselling and conducting mental health assessments.
  • Excellent assessment skills, practitioner and therapeutic skills, and ability to work with a range of professionals.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and networking skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills, dealing with a broad range of students and staff.
  • Ability to work flexibly to plan and prioritize workload, and meet deadlines.
  • Effective team working and excellent verbal and written English language skills.
  • Understanding of the factors affecting student mental health and equality and diversity issues.
