About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Therapy Assistant to join our busy Stroke Team at the Royal London Hospital. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient-centered care to individuals with complex healthcare needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist therapists in the rehabilitation of patients by carrying out treatment plans developed by therapists and progressing those treatment plans within agreed frameworks.
  • Carry out patient assessment and treatment in a wide variety of settings, including the ward and gym.
  • Undertake formalized assessments and reporting, including access visits and cognitive and functional measures.
  • Facilitate stroke survivors with self-management and work autonomously to support patients in their rehabilitation plans using advanced communication and therapeutic handling skills.
  • Assist therapists in treatment requiring more than one therapist, including those with complex therapeutic handling needs.
  • Lead the efficiency processes of timetabling and prioritization for Rehab Support Workers (RSWs).
  • Lead the delivery of Therapist-prescribed group exercise and education programs.
  • Autonomously identify the need for re-evaluation, progression, and termination of interventions.
  • Modify specific patient treatment programs by reassessing and progressing as appropriate, where agreed by responsible Therapist.

Person Specification
  • GCSE Maths and English or a good standard of written English, numeracy, and IT skills.
  • Formal technical qualification, e.g. City & Guilds, or NVQ in a Health-related field, or equivalent skills acquired through in-service development or experience.
  • Foundation degree in rehabilitation or equivalent through in-service development or experience.
  • Relevant experience of working as a therapy assistant or support worker in a physical health setting.
  • Relevant experience in an inpatient-based setting.
  • Extensive experience of working with patients with complex healthcare needs in a rehabilitation setting.
  • Experience of working with patients from a diverse multicultural community.
  • Experience of using highly skilled handling to facilitate client movement and/or rehabilitation.
  • Experience of transferring learnt skills to a practical environment.
