Job Title: Safeguarding Children and Young People Nurse

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic practitioner to join our All Age Safeguarding team as a Safeguarding Children and Young People Nurse. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a passionate team who provide support, advice, guidance, and training to all staff across the Trust.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Operational management of the child part of the team, ensuring effective delivery of safeguarding services.
  2. Undertake training and leadership and management training to enable you to fulfill the requirements of the Named Nurse role.
  3. Contribute to the leadership structure for the All Age service, supporting both new and existing staff to gain/develop safeguarding knowledge, skills, and expertise.
  4. Work as a Safeguarding Child practitioner, undertaking duty, training, supervision, report writing, and participating in Child Safeguarding Practice reviews and Domestic Homicide Reviews.
  5. Collaborate with Multi-Agency partners for safeguarding and looked after children and adults, as well as Domestic Abuse.
  6. Support the safeguarding team to fulfill their multi-agency responsibilities as required by the Kent Safeguarding Children Multi-Agency Partnership and Kent and Medway Adult Safeguarding Board.
  7. Participate in the development of safeguarding and looked after children-related policies and guidelines.
  8. Promote the Think Family agenda across all safeguarding working with the Named professionals to embed the paramountcy of the child and make safeguarding personal.
  9. Provide advice and act as a resource to other departments within the Trust for safeguarding children and looked after children.
  10. Build strong and collaborative relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to achieve secure goals and objectives based on a foundation of self-awareness and emotional intelligence.
  11. Work collaboratively with the senior nursing team and the Trust Safeguarding team to ensure there is effective education, supervision, oversight, completion of statutory safeguarding processes, and service development.
  12. Ensure compliance with the Trust's Risk Management Policies and Procedures.
Person Specification:

Qualifications and Training:

  • Registered Nurse, Midwife, or RN Adult with Specialist Community Public Health with a child and family focus at degree level.
  • Training qualification.

Clinical Skills and Experience:

  • 5 years' experience with 2 years' experience working in safeguarding at Band 7 or above.
  • Experience of designing and delivering safeguarding training.
  • Expert knowledge of the Children Act (1989 and 2004), Working Together 2023, and NICE guidance for looked after children and young people 2021.
  • Continuous quality improvement.
  • Experience of safeguarding in the Acute setting.
  • Previous experience of completion of child safeguarding practice reviews.
  • Understanding of risk management.
  • Experience of safeguarding investigations, RCAs, SIs.
  • Flexible, highly motivated, self-directed practitioner with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel between sites.
