About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our team at GirlingJones. As a key member of our civil and structural engineering team, you will be responsible for delivering geotechnical expertise across various UK-wide projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead geotechnical projects, collaborating with civil and structural teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Serve as the company's representative in Design Team Meetings, providing expert advice on geotechnical matters.
  • Supervise, review, and guide junior staff members in geotechnical design and analysis.
  • Prepare project costings and quotations for geotechnical services.
  • Design foundations (both ULS and SLS), soil retaining structures, and ground reinforcements.
  • Conduct ground improvement assessments, earthwork designs, and slope/settlement analysis.
  • Utilize specialized geotechnical software to deliver precise design solutions.
  • Develop GIRs/GDRs and GFRs.
  • Maintain strong commercial and contractual awareness to ensure project efficiency.

Requirements

  • Degree in Geotechnical engineering or similar relevant qualification.
  • 7-10 years+ of post-graduate experience in geotechnical engineering.
  • Proven ability to lead projects and act as a trusted point of contact in client settings.
  • Experience in overseeing and reviewing the work of less experienced colleagues.
  • Competence in foundation design, ground improvements, and earthworks assessments.
  • Ability to produce high-quality technical reports and presentations.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software for designing and assessing settlements, slopes, and retaining structures.
  • Strong business and contractual understanding.
