The project aims to achieve a step change in the prediction and mapping of railway noise and vibration, in the acceptance testing of new rolling stock, and in the promotion of cost-effective noise mitigation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop prediction methods and experimental methods for separating wheel and track noise sources
  • Model the noise of a passing train from its individual sources
  • Collaborate with the team at the university and with researchers in partner organisations
  • Attend regular project meetings and contribute to the development of the project
  • Report the findings of your work in leading scientific journals and conferences
Requirements

  • Experience of modelling and use of Matlab or equivalent
  • Specific understanding and knowledge of railway rolling noise and vibration and/or curve squeal and relevant experience in acoustic modelling
What We Offer

The University of Southampton is a world-leading research-intensive university, and this role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of noise and vibration. We offer a competitive salary, a dynamic and supportive work environment, and opportunities for professional development.
