Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at New Appointments Group. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for creating innovative and functional designs that meet our business requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop detailed technical designs, specifications, and drawings using CAD software and Microsoft packages.
- Manage multiple projects, ensuring timely completion and resolution of early-stage manufacturing issues.
- Prepare manufacturing and process instructions for new products and support the design and development of test rigs.
- Collaborate with design briefs to resolve design details or discrepancies and coordinate drawing activities.
- Ensure products meet design objectives and compliance standards, providing a formal handover to the Manufacturing Process Engineering group.
Person Specification:
- Essential Criteria:
- Minimum BEng level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related scientific subject.
- Currently working towards Chartered/Incorporated Engineer status and membership of a Professional Engineering Institution.
- Minimum 3 years of design engineering experience, preferably in the automotive or aerospace manufacturing industry.
- Proficient in using CREO or similar 3D CAD and product lifecycle management software.
- Experience in design for manufacture and assembly, with familiarity in NPI Gate review process/production readiness.
- Desirable Criteria:
- Familiarity with AS9100, AS13100, AS9145 (APQP) standards.
- Experience with material selection, plating finishes, and understanding mechanical properties of materials.
- Knowledge of the design development process, including risk assessment and DFMEA, DFM/A.
- Strong mechanical bias with some electrical familiarity.
- Ability to clearly communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
