Data Center Chief Engineer

Amazon is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Center Chief Engineer to join our team in the Greater Paris Area. This critical role is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our data centers' mechanical and electrical equipment.
Key Responsibilities:- Equipment Maintenance and Operations: Oversee the day-to-day maintenance and operation of mechanical and electrical equipment in data centers, ensuring optimal performance and availability.
- Facilities Design and Build-out: Assist in the design and build-out of new facilities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and Amazon's technical requirements.
- Escalation Point: Serve as an escalation point for all facilities-related issues within the data center region, working extended hours as needed to ensure site stability.
- Root Cause Analysis: Perform thorough root cause analysis of equipment failures to identify and implement corrective actions.
- Troubleshooting and Reporting: Troubleshoot and report facility and data server-level events within internal SLAs.
- Standard Practices: Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams.
- Training and Guidance: Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and assist in recruiting efforts for the same.
- Change Management: Utilize internal Change Management Systems to manage building workflows.
- SLA Management: Maintain SLAs through the implementation of proactive issue detection and immediate response.
- Education: Level 7 Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, depending on the country of qualification.
- Electrical and Mechanical Competencies: Demonstrate key electrical and mechanical competencies and theory.
- Safe Electrical Practice: Know and apply safe electrical practice according to guidelines set by relevant electrical safety supervisory bodies.
- Data Center Knowledge: Have a strong working knowledge and experience of the purpose and infrastructure of a Data Center, including in-depth knowledge of UPS, backup generator systems, and generic mechanical-room infrastructure such as chillers, Cooler Units, and fan controls.
- Network Design and Layout: Fundamental knowledge of network design and layout (copper/fibre) as well as low/high voltage (copper/fibre) cabling, BMS Systems, Monitoring and alarming systems.
- IT Skills: Competent in the use of basic IT programs such as MS Word/Excel or similar.
- Driving License: Full EU driving license.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in operations and on-call support for Data Center facilities or Mission Critical Plants/Production facilities.
- Technical Degree: An undergraduate degree in a technical field (EE, MechE, IndustrialE).
- Project Management: Project Management experience.
