About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Data Engineer to join our team at Amazon. As a key member of our Data Center Engineering Operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our data centers and providing exceptional customer service to our internal teams.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Facility Operations: Oversee the day-to-day operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in data center sites, ensuring 100% availability and peak efficiency.
  2. Training and Support: Train and support the Engineering team in their role of providing electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operations, including site-specific training exercises.
  3. Project Management: Manage large-scale, high-impact projects, including new region support, from conception to completion, collaborating with external support groups and driving innovation and resiliency.
  4. Escalation Point: Act as an escalation point for all facilities-related issues within the data center region, working overtime as needed to support site stability.
  5. Root Cause Analysis: Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot and report facility and data server-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
  6. Standard Practices: Create and deploy standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams, ensuring adherence to safety procedures.
  7. Reporting: Complete reports on a weekly basis, providing key insights and recommendations for improvement.
Requirements
  1. Education: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  2. Experience: Extensive industry-related experience with in-depth knowledge of UPS, backup generator systems, and generic mechanical-room infrastructure.
  3. Skills: Proficient with IT programs such as Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word) or similar, and experience in leading critical facilities operation.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Master's Degree: Master's Degree in a technical field - Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineer or equivalent.
  2. Project Management: Project Management experience, with a proven track record of delivering large-scale projects on time and within budget.
