Job Summary

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Research Fellow In Breast Surgery with General Surgery interest at Whittington Health NHS Trust. This 12-month fixed-term post comes with the option to extend. The successful candidate will join our forward-thinking department, providing elective and emergency patient care in both in-patient and out-patient settings.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The successful appointee will be expected to carry out independent elective outpatient activity in one-stop clinic sessions. The opportunity to perform and assist in a wide variety of oncoplastic breast procedures in theatres weekly is also available, ranging from level 1 to level 3 oncoplastic surgery, reconstructive surgery, complex revision, and symmetrising procedures.

General Surgery On-Call Rota

The successful candidate will also take part in the General Surgery on-call rota, which is currently a one in eleven rota.

Essential Requirements

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification with a current PhD/MD
  • Full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment
  • Evidence of achievement of ST1/CT1 competences in a relevant specialty at the time of application and likelihood of achieving ST2/CT2 competences in a relevant specialty by the start date of the post
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Applicant's knowledge is up to date and fit to practise safely
  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
  • Meets professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice)
  • Relevant specialty clinical knowledge: Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job
  • Clinical judgement: Experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk
