We are seeking a highly organized and detail-focused Evidence Officer to join our team at Adecco UK Limited. As an Evidence Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient processing and storage of evidential property, providing a high-quality service to both internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of the management, continuity, and safety of physical evidence held by TVP within the Evidence Management Unit (EMU). Attend court as required to account for evidential property in support of various prosecutions and civil proceedings.
  • Assess, prepare, and dispose of property in accordance with legislation, policy, and procedure, utilizing the Evidence Portal. Process cash and create manifests for the disposal of hazardous and/or illegal items of property. Maintain compliance with random audits from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC), the Professional Standards Department (PSD), and the Criminal Justice Senior Management Team.
  • Function as a subject matter expert in evidence management, providing guidance and support to officers and staff involved in evidence management, as well as participating in training events with various staff members. This includes advice on packaging, maintaining the continuity and integrity of evidence.
  • Identify and resolve issues related to evidence management, such as managing the ongoing retention process for frozen materials. Conduct regular quality control/assurance checks to ensure evidence is kept in optimal conditions to maximize evidence recovery. Report critical issues in a timely manner and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Maintain an efficient storage system to ensure suitable action is taken to manage space effectively, support specific operations to 'purge' legacy evidence/property held by TVP to enable swift evidence retrieval and compliance with relevant Health and Safety regulations. Conduct daily checks as required.
  • Maintain the security of the Evidence Management Unit/Store(s) to prevent unauthorized access and provide an 'out of hours' service when necessary.
  • Manage the storage and transportation of hazardous, high-risk, or high-value items of property to ensure proper risk management is completed in line with statutory obligations.

Essential Criteria:

  • Proven ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure to meet specific deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work independently and proactively to resolve and investigate problems to a conclusion, possessing excellent problem-solving skills with the capacity to plan and adapt to future requirements. Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • IT literacy, including the use of Microsoft Office applications (including Word and basic Excel), as well as the ability to learn new systems.
  • Understanding or willingness to learn Force Policy Release/Rretention, Hazardous Waste Act, CPIA, and relevant legislation (e.g. Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996 and The Police (Property) Regulations 1997).
  • Willingness to undertake Manual Handling/COSHH training.
  • Proven customer service skills, with a particular focus on engaging effectively with customers at all levels to resolve issues.
  • Good standard of education, with GCSEs (Grade 9-4/A-C) or Key Skills level 2 or equivalent in Literacy and Numeracy.
  • Due to the physically active nature of this role, the successful candidate will be expected to lift/move heavy objects and satisfactorily complete a manual handling course (training provided).
  • Must have the capability to travel to different locations across the Force and undertake all assignments in a timely manner, being available to work some evenings and weekends, where required*. Due to the requirement to work flexibly, unsocial hours, and personal safety for lone working; public transport may not be available or suitable at these times. A full UK driving license is considered essential.
