Job Title: Deputy Manager

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Deputy Manager to join our team at Headway Adolescent Children's Services.

About the Role:

The Deputy Manager will be responsible for ensuring the needs of young people in our care are met and providing a positive and safe living experience. This will involve managing and leading a team of Team Leaders and Residential Support Workers to provide high-quality childcare.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Work on shift with the Home Manager to ensure the Home runs efficiently and effectively to a high standard.
  • Manage a staff team and deputise for the Home Manager in their absence, delivering supervision in accordance with company policy.
  • Comply with the Company's Safeguarding Policies and Procedures, including Whistleblowing and any associated guidance.
  • Comply with and have a thorough up-to-date knowledge of the Home's Statement of Purpose, Policy and Procedures, all relevant legislation, and be able to impart this knowledge to all staff.
  • Promote effective multi-agency working and positive relationships with all staff, the local community, local authorities, other professional agencies, and significant others who are part of a young person's life.
  • Set an acceptable role model standard within the home, acting as a mentor to staff.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of the objectives identified in the young person's Plans.
  • Ensure the staff team contributes to the reviewing and monitoring process in the development of Care Planning and ensures the Key Worker system is adhered to.
  • Promote anti-discriminatory and equal opportunity practices in line with Company Policy.
  • Implement and enforce legislation and company policies on Health & Safety, Fire, and Data Protection.
  • Attend all required training and present in-house training courses as required, supporting QCF learners.
  • Participate in the on-call Rota as required and be available to cover shifts when on-call, submitting on-call records.
  • Manage the petty cash budget responsibly and properly balance it at the end of each shift, managing additional funds effectively, and monitoring the home's budget as directed by the Home Manager.
Requirements:
  • Good overall standard of education.
  • Working towards or hold a Level Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce or equivalent.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of Child Care legislation, children's home regulations, and quality standards.
  • Hold a QCF Level qualification or be willing to work towards one.
  • Commitment to commence relevant level Diploma within months of appointment and successful completion of probation period, if not already qualified to this level.
  • A minimum of years' previous experience of working directly with young people with challenging behaviour.
  • Experience of working with outside agencies, other professionals, parents, and families.
  • Experience of attending reviews, planning meetings, etc.
  • Excellent report writing and numeracy skills.
  • Well-organised with excellent administration and IT skills.
  • Able to relate to young people with empathy and committed to a high standard of childcare and achieving the best outcomes for young people in their care.
  • Strong motivational, management, and leadership potential, able to supervise, support, and develop Team Leaders & Residential Support Workers to create a cohesive team.
  • The successful applicant will be subject to a DBS check at enhanced level if successful for the position.
  • Must hold a full, clean UK Driving Licence (manual).
