About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Ecological Land Management Advisor to join our team at National Park Dartmoor. The successful candidate will be responsible for surveying the Walkham Valley landscape, building positive relationships with local communities, and developing an ecological understanding to inform the long-term future of this treasured part of Dartmoor.

Main Objectives
  • Establish an ecological baseline and identify priority habitats and species within the catchment.
  • Provide options and advice for future ecological enhancement based on the existing ecosystem, opportunities, and the ambition of landowners and land managers.
  • Advise and assist farmers to apply for new Environmental Land Management Scheme (ELMS) agreements, particularly Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) and Higher Tier.
Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with contractors to survey commons and collect data from partners.
  • Develop an ambitious and exciting plan for ecological enhancement and creation that will form the foundation of the subsequent 20-year delivery phase.
  • Provide support and ensure that new ELMS agreements align and synergize with the emerging plan for the overarching Landscape Recovery scheme.
Requirements
  • Excellent ecological knowledge and botanical skills.
  • Experience of carrying out surveys and understanding of landscape-scale ecosystems.
  • Extensive experience of working with farmers and rural communities, with a track record of building positive rapport and long-term working relationships.
  • Significant experience of providing agricultural advice, particularly around agri-environmental schemes.
