Job Title: Public Rights of Way Officer

Job Summary:

Essex County Council is seeking a highly skilled Public Rights of Way Officer to join our team. As a Public Rights of Way Officer, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining the county's public rights of way network, including footpaths, bridleways, and byways.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain the county's public rights of way network, including footpaths, bridleways, and byways.
  • Provide expert advice on public rights of way matters to senior leaders, members, and the general public.
  • Conduct site visits to assess the condition of public rights of way and identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve public rights of way, including the creation of new routes and the upgrading of existing ones.
  • Work with developers, agents, and other stakeholders to ensure that public rights of way are protected during development projects.
  • Provide training and guidance to colleagues on public rights of way matters.

Requirements:

  • Education to RQF Level 5 (foundation degree) or equivalent by experience.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and organise a broad and evolving workload effectively.
  • Proven negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to build internal and external working relationships.
  • Good political awareness.
  • Membership of IPROW is desirable.
