About the Role:

Despatch Team Leader - Hereford

Working Hours / on 2 off rotating shifts

Purpose of the role:

As a key member of the Avara Foods team, the Despatch Team Leader will be responsible for managing the Despatch team to deliver departmental KPIs using Continuous Improvement methodologies and application of the company values, ensuring policies and standards are safely met.

Your key responsibilities as Despatch Team Leader will include:

  1. Organising and motivating the team to deliver the day-to-day operational requirements of the department
  2. Undertaking 121s with team members in line with the agreed business timelines
  3. Working with the Despatch Shift Manager and training department to develop a high-performing and engaged team that delivers to agreed quality & safety standards
  4. Escalating issues in a timely manner to key stakeholders, including Production Schedulers / Transport / Sales and Despatch Shift Manager
  5. Supporting the root cause analysis of all incidents, either food or people related, to enable the implementation of effective countermeasures
  6. Responsible for effective and accurate stock control
  7. Deputising for the Despatch Shift Manager when required
  8. Consistent application of the Company's procedures relating to absence and conduct, ensuring issues are dealt with quickly, effectively, and fairly
  9. Effectively managing the shift resources to meet the day-to-day priorities
  10. Completing TMS for all weekly paid staff
  11. Approving holidays within the current restrictions and updating calendar and TMS accordingly, arranging overtime or cover with agencies when appropriate
  12. Providing regular updates on shift progress through the escalation processes
  13. Management of the bay procedures to ensure safety and adherence to SOPs
  14. Following the defect procedure for MHE / scan guns
  15. Understanding, managing, and adhering to the maintenance of good GMP
  16. Understanding, managing, and adhering to health and safety procedures, encouraging safe work behaviours
  17. Understanding, managing, and adhering to food hygiene procedures
  18. To comply with and promote all Avara Foods policies and procedures
  19. Other duties within the general scope of the post may be required from time to time

What we are looking for:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join our team as a Despatch Team Leader. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of coaching others to succeed, good communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to develop good working relationships with all staff and managers.

Essential:

  1. Experience of coaching others to succeed
  2. Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate across departments and levels
  3. Proven delegation skills
  4. Desire to challenge and improve current GMPs
  5. Ability to develop good working relationships with all staff and managers
  6. Ability to assess and co-ordinate training requirements for new and existing team members
  7. Computer literate
  8. Functional skills English and Maths Entry Level 3
  9. Demonstrate and promote the Company Vision and Values

Desirable:

  1. Experienced MHE operator
  2. Relevant ILM accreditation at Level 2 or desire to achieve within the role
  3. Experience in organisation of resources to meet scheduled requirements
  4. Understanding of computerised warehousing systems
  5. Experience of coaching and developing others
  6. A proven track recording in ensuring all aspects of team management are dealt with in an effective, consistent, and fair manner
  7. Experience of warehouse management systems, including setting up loads and management of the WMS system to help improve operational efficiencies
  8. Experience in conducting investigations, return to works, absence review meetings, and disciplinary processes
  9. Knowledge of the Time Management System
  10. Experience of using continuous improvement and lean tools or a desire to develop in these areas
