About the Role:

Despatch Team Leader - Hereford

Working Hours 0700-1900/1900-0700 3 on 2 off rotating shifts

Purpose of the role:

As a Despatch Team Leader at Avara Foods, you will be responsible for managing a team to deliver departmental KPIs using Continuous Improvement methodologies and application of company values, ensuring policies and standards are safely met.

Your key responsibilities as Despatch Team Leader will include:

  1. Organising and motivating the team to deliver day-to-day operational requirements of the department
  2. Undertaking 121s with team members in line with agreed business timelines
  3. Working with the Despatch Shift Manager and training department to develop a high-performing and engaged team that delivers to agreed quality and safety standards
  4. Escalating issues in a timely manner to key stakeholders, including Production Schedulers, Transport, Sales, and Despatch Shift Manager
  5. Supporting the root cause analysis of all incidents, either food or people related, to enable the implementation of effective countermeasures
  6. Responsible for effective and accurate stock control
  7. Deputising for the Despatch Shift Manager when required
  8. Consistently applying company procedures relating to absence and conduct, ensuring issues are dealt with quickly, effectively, and fairly
  9. Effectively managing shift resources to meet day-to-day priorities
  10. Completing TMS for all weekly paid staff
  11. Approving holidays within current restrictions and updating calendar and TMS accordingly, arranging overtime or cover with agencies when appropriate
  12. Providing regular updates on shift progress through escalation processes
  13. Managing bay procedures to ensure safety and adherence to SOPs
  14. Following the defect procedure for MHE/scan guns
  15. Understanding, managing, and adhering to the maintenance of good GMP
  16. Understanding, managing, and adhering to health and safety procedures, encouraging safe work behaviours
  17. Understanding, managing, and adhering to food hygiene procedures
  18. To comply with and promote all Avara Foods policies and procedures
  19. Other duties within the general scope of the post may be required from time to time

We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual who can demonstrate the following skills and qualities:

  • Experience of coaching others to succeed
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate across departments and levels
  • Proven delegation skills
  • Desire to challenge and improve current GMPs
  • Ability to develop good working relationships with all staff and managers
  • Ability to assess and coordinate training requirements for new and existing team members
  • Computer literate
  • Functional skills in English and Maths, Entry Level 3
  • Demonstrate and promote the Company Vision and Values

Desirable:

We would also welcome applications from individuals with the following skills and qualifications:

  • Experienced MHE operator
  • Relevant ILM accreditation at Level 2 or desire to achieve within the role
  • Experience in organisation of resources to meet scheduled requirements
  • Understanding of computerised warehousing systems
  • Experience of coaching and developing others
  • A proven track record in ensuring all aspects of team management are dealt with in an effective, consistent, and fair manner
  • Experience of warehouse management systems, including setting up loads and management of the WMS system to help improve operational efficiencies
  • Experience in conducting investigations, return to work, absence review meetings, and disciplinary processes
  • Knowledge of the Time Management System
  • Experience of using continuous improvement and lean tools or a desire to develop in these areas
