About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Application Security Engineer to join our team at Tesco Technology. As a key member of our cyber security team, you will play a vital role in protecting our systems, services, and data from the latest threats.

With a strong background in systems engineering and administration, you will be passionate about security and looking to move into a more security-focused role. You will work closely with our experienced application security engineers to identify gaps in software engineering practices and recommend streamlined security solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help identify gaps in software engineering practices and select appropriate application security tooling
  • Work using agile practices, such as Scrum
  • Deliver training on core application security products to security and engineering teams
  • Write and deliver easy-to-consume wiki content on application security products
  • Promote security best practices across the business
  • Help build automation and monitoring to enforce security policies and detect threats
  • Help build safe-by-default guardrails for engineers to use

Requirements:

  • Proficient in at least one scripting or programming language (Python, JavaScript, Java)
  • Experience supporting, administering, and building cloud infrastructure (preferably Azure)
  • Experience configuring continuous integration tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
  • Proven experience operating and administering Linux distributions (RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS)
  • Understanding of containerization and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Strong operations and technical troubleshooting experience

Good to Have:

  • Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and common tools (JIRA, Git, GitHub, Nexus)
  • Good understanding of architecture and design principles
  • Understanding of common Application Security Tooling (SCA, SAST, DAST, IaC Security)
  • Knowledge of OWASP Top 10, Mitre Top 25, and CVSS frameworks, mapping to business risk
