About the Position: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced BSL Teaching Assistant to join our team at a specialist deaf school in Birmingham. The ideal candidate will have a passion for supporting the academic and personal development of students with additional needs and be committed to creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting teachers and learning support assistants in developing strategies to engage deaf students in the curriculum
  • Using British Sign Language (BSL) to communicate effectively with students and help them understand lessons and instructions
  • Helping create a safe and supportive environment where students feel confident to express themselves and participate fully
  • Building strong relationships with students, staff, and external professionals to support holistic student development

Requirements:

  • A minimum of BSL Level 2 qualification or above
  • Experience working with deaf or hard-of-hearing children and young people in an educational setting
  • A passion for supporting the academic and personal development of students with additional needs
  • A collaborative approach to working within a team dedicated to inclusive education
