Job Title: Benefits Officer

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Benefits Officer to join our team at City of Lincoln Council. As a Benefits Officer, you will play a crucial role in assessing entitlement to Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support, providing excellent customer service, and working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve our goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess entitlement to Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support, ensuring timely and accurate decisions.
  • Provide high-quality customer service, responding to queries and resolving issues in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve team objectives, sharing knowledge and expertise to improve service delivery.
  • Conduct qualitative checks of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support assessments, ensuring payments are made correctly and subsidy claimed appropriately.
  • Recover overpaid Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit, and Administrative Penalties, maintaining accurate records and communicating effectively with customers.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience in an organisation dealing with benefits, debt recovery, and customer service.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, sharing knowledge and expertise to improve service delivery.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with customers and colleagues.
  • Knowledge of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit legislation, with the ability to apply this knowledge in a practical context.
  • Ability to work flexibly, adapting to changing priorities and deadlines.
