Occupational Therapy Assistant Position

Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our Community Neurological Rehabilitation Team at Whittington Health NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting occupational therapy and other professionals within the team to deliver interventions that promote independence, confidence, and overall well-being for clients with physical, cognitive, and psychological needs.
The ideal candidate will have a good basic education and relevant experience in planning and achieving tasks independently or as part of a team. They will possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.
Main Responsibilities:
- To work with clients with acquired brain injury, traumatic brain injury, degenerative diseases, occasional challenging behavior, and other neurological conditions to provide community neurological rehabilitation programs.
- To independently complete assessments of clients as delegated by a senior therapist, such as activity of daily living assessments, falls assessments, mobility assessments.
- To work effectively as a member of the team to assist in planning and implementing care plans and treatment programs under the guidance of a qualified professional.
- To form professional relationships with clients and communicate with them in a way that respects their views, autonomy, and culture.
- To liaise with relatives, carers, and other agencies to obtain or feedback sensitive information relating to the client's rehabilitation program.
Requirements:
- Good personal organizational skills, including time management and ability to prioritize.
- Ability to teach practical skills to clients.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Understanding of confidentiality.
- Positive interpersonal skills.
- Good observational skills and ability to interpret observations.
- Ability to assess a situation and react appropriately.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the needs of people with disabilities.
- BASIC computer skills i.e. email, internet.
Working Conditions:
- To undertake home visits - exposure to a range of conditions some of which may be unpleasant.
- Occasional exposure to body fluids, unpleasant smells, verbal aggression.
Salary: £26,500 per annum.
