About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Clinical Development Specialist to join our team at Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice. As a Clinical Development Specialist, you will play a key role in supporting the development of our care team, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge needed to provide high-quality care to our patients.

Main Responsibilities

  • To identify learning needs of staff working in the hospice and support the delivery of our educational framework to promote learning across the team.
  • To promote a culture of learning and development using innovative ways to build practice education and to support the effective healthcare governance process.
  • To maintain own clinical competence and that of care team by working a rostered shifts to allow for shadowing and development and skill sharing.
  • To participate in the education strategy from within care team including developing further the skills/competency matrix to reflect the level of education required in the care team.
  • To support the delivery of symptom management, end of life care and care after death.
  • To collaborate with Quality and Education Lead and other members of the Senior Care Leadership Team, to co-ordinate the training and development activities of hospice staff to ensure all users of the service benefit from the delivery of evidence-based practice.
  • To take the lead in the effective development of a clinical simulation programme, utilising the skills and experience within the multidisciplinary team and ensuring high quality evidence-based skill and practice.
  • To maintain Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice reputation, as a provider of high-quality education in children's palliative care locally and nationally, in collaboration with the Quality and Education Lead and Chief Nurse.
  • To provide educational support to individuals and groups of staff, through on the job teaching sessions and assessments of clinical proficiencies.
  • To ensure all clinical procedures are carried out in accordance with best practice guidelines and policies.
  • To ensure effective communication to the wider care team, including the dissemination of information accurately and timely to support effective team working.
  • To develop and maintain an effective working relationship with the Care Leadership Team and colleagues around the hospice.
  • To undertake and support staff in governance related activity, audit, quality assurance, risk management, policy and guideline development.

    • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, children, young people, and families
    • Competence in Microsoft Office packages including MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
    • Ability to work on own initiative
    • Awareness of the role and scope of children's hospice care
    • Demonstrable knowledge of Care Quality Care Standards and relevant legislation
Qualifications
  • Essential
    • Current NMC registration (RN Child, RSCN or equivalent)
    • Degree in a relevant subject or significant relevant practice experience
Desirable
  • Teaching qualification, PGCE, PG Diploma
