About the Role

The Academic Progress Coach will provide progression support and advice to students, aiming to maximise student outcomes, achievement, and satisfaction levels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support students to maximise their chances of automatically progressing to their chosen degree course, ensuring the best possible student experience and achievement.
  • Provide personal tutoring support to students throughout the semester.
  • Gather student information from Personal Tutors on a weekly basis to identify ways of supporting students.
  • Meet with allocated Subject Heads and Progression Management team to discuss students at risk of not automatically progressing, students with poor attendance, and those requiring additional support.
  • Meet with students who have poor attendance at Level 1, 2, and in some cases Level 3, liaising with the Progression & Transition Manager.
  • Support Personal Tutors with delivering information to students, monitoring attendance proactively, and feeding back RPAG data.
  • Ensure students are referred to appropriate Study Group, University, or external services where necessary.
  • Monitor RPAG data when released and meet with students at risk of not automatically progressing.
  • Identify key trends and patterns from student data, such as RPAG and attendance, and actively feed data into Senior Leadership, Progression Management meetings, and other Centre-led meetings.
  • Communicate with non-progressed students as directed by the Progression & Transition Manager.
Transition and Student Voice
  • Support the Student Experience & Transition Officer in organising events, such as university activities, faculty fairs, transition events, guest lectures, and workshops for student development.
  • Support the Student Experience and Transition Officer to formalise and organise Student Rep training, ensuring a bank of students is available as and when required.
  • Attend Student Forum meetings, ensuring accurate minutes are recorded and distributed to relevant Teams in the ISC.
  • Support effective interaction with Alumni, facilitating student involvement.
Welcome Week and Social Activities
  • Support the Progression & Transition Manager in communicating and inviting University partners to include Support Services, Partnership Tutors, and progressed students to Induction periods.
  • Support late registration of students.
  • Support the Student Experience & Transition Officer in organising social activities and student-led activities, including Building Futures, Student Union organisation, MentISC, Progression Award Ceremony, and trips.
General Duties
  • Support the Progression & Transition Manager and Head of Student Experience from time to time with tasks related to the effective running of the ISC.
  • Foster productive relationships with the student body and members of staff.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of students with whom you come into contact.
