Job Title: Financial Accountant

Environmental Standards Scotland is seeking a highly skilled Financial Accountant to join our team. As a key member of our Corporate Services and Communications team, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records and reports.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and present financial reports to the ESS Board, Audit and Risk Committee, and Scottish Government.
  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
  • Lead on the annual accounts and external audit requirements, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
  • Streamline finance functions, implementing action plans and improvements in response to need.
  • Support the development of robust business processes and provide guidance on best practices.

Requirements:

  • Excellent understanding and experience of budgeting and financial management processes and reporting.
  • Strong technical accounting skills and solid experience in compiling year-end financial accounts for external audit.
  • Proven ability to work on your own initiative, managing competing priorities and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, with evidence of presenting complex information to senior managers.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Good knowledge of SEAS / Oracle and the Scottish Government's procurement process.
  • Knowledge of the Scottish Government budgetary cycle.
  • Practical experience of using Oracle Financials.

Qualifications:

Professionally qualified accountant - CCAB professional accountancy body or equivalent with up to date CPD.
