About Our Client

The client is a well-established government organisation located in Canary Wharf.

  1. Key Responsibilities:
  2. Prepare and submit timely and accurate interim and year-end financial statements, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, public sector accounting requirements, and International Financial Reporting Standards.
  3. Provide expert advice on the application of accounting standards and tax/financial control issues to support informed decision-making.
  4. Support the timely provision of monthly management accounts and continuously improve the production process to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
  5. Take ownership of all aspects of the General Ledger, including chart of accounts, banking, VAT, Fixed Asset register, and reconciliations.
  6. Liaise with external auditors to ensure smooth progression of audit of the Annual Reports and Accounts to meet the laying timetable.
  7. Accountable for the submission of financial reports to DHSC and HM Treasury.
  8. Analyse current processes to identify and implement ways to improve processes and financial control, driving operational excellence.
  9. Act as a subject matter expert, providing technical accounting advice in line with IFRS and the Financial Reporting Manual (FReM) and other relevant government guidance documents.
  10. Manage a diverse team and ensure all professional training and development requirements are met.
  11. Lead the financial control function and effectively manage team dynamics to drive forward a shared goal.

Working Together

  1. Collaborate with the Head of Financial Accounting and Reporting to establish a framework for timely and accurate production of accounts while ensuring compliance with policies.
  2. Key Requirements:
  3. Extensive experience of managing audit and delivery of unqualified financial statements.
  4. Extensive experience of managing financial controls and risks in both reporting and finance operations.
  5. Application of public sector financial reporting and management rules (including the Financial Reporting Manual (FReM), Managing Public Money etc.).

What's on Offer

You will be offered a competitive salary of £60,000 - £80,000 per annum, depending on experience, and an immediate start on a 9-month contract.
