Canterbury Cathedral is a prominent Anglican institution, serving as the cathedral of the Archbishop of Canterbury and a symbol of the worldwide Anglican Communion. Located in Kent, it is one of the oldest Christian structures in England and a part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Principal Accountant will play a crucial role in the cathedral's finance team, supporting the implementation of a new Finance Management System. This system will provide accurate financial reporting, streamline financial processes, and enable real-time financial information for informed decision-making. The Principal Accountant will undertake a review of manual processes associated with legacy systems and drive change to improve efficiency.

During the project, the Principal Accountant will collaborate with the IT Manager to develop a formal data strategy, ensuring data quality and reliability. This will involve providing finance input to the production of the strategy.

In addition to the project, the Principal Accountant will support the Director of Finance in delivering the wider functions of the finance department. This will include assisting with the preparation of annual accounts, management reporting, job and project costing, forecasting, managing investments and insurance, and maintaining strong internal controls.
