Head of Health, Safety and Wellbeing (North)

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) professional to lead our HSW performance in the Northern area.

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the highest levels of HSW performance and culture throughout the Northern area, reporting into the Director of Health Safety and Wellbeing and as a member of the Building and Infrastructure senior leadership teams.

The role will involve leading a team of HSW professionals, providing technical support to complex construction or civil engineering projects, and implementing root cause analysis to identify and mitigate risks.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of behavioural psychology and human factors, excellent communication and influencing skills, and experience of managing direct reports.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead HSW performance in the Northern area
  • Provide technical support to complex construction or civil engineering projects
  • Implement root cause analysis to identify and mitigate risks
  • Manage a team of HSW professionals
  • Develop and implement HSW strategies and policies

Requirements:

  • Member of IOSH working towards Chartered Status
  • Excellent people leadership skills
  • Experience of providing highly technical H&S support to complex Construction or Civil Engineering projects
  • Competent understanding and ability to apply root cause analysis
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Experience of leading HSW improvement with successful results
  • A proactive approach to your own learning and development
  • Chartered member of IOSH
  • NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 5/6 in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Mental Health First Aider
  • Experience of managing direct reports
  • Sound understanding of behavioural psychology and human factors
