Job Overview

The Trauma and Orthopaedic Department at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and dynamic individual to join our team as a Trauma Coordinator. This is a new initiative that will evolve over time, requiring flexibility and a proactive approach to development.

Main Duties

The Trauma Coordinator will work closely with the Trauma and Orthopaedic team to manage the orthopaedic trauma admissions to St Thomas Hospital. The aim is to improve the pathway for patients to receive the best care in a timely fashion. The Trauma Coordinator will provide expert advice to nursing and MDT teams on pre and post-operative management, work with the team to schedule surgery within agreed timeframes, and act as a point of contact for patients not within the footprint of the orthopaedic ward.

The Trauma Coordinator will also be responsible for liaising with various subspecialties to coordinate care between sites, ensuring seamless patient care. This role will require strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to lead and manage clinical services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage orthopaedic trauma admissions to St Thomas Hospital
  • Provide expert advice to nursing and MDT teams on pre and post-operative management
  • Work with the team to schedule surgery within agreed timeframes
  • Act as a point of contact for patients not within the footprint of the orthopaedic ward
  • Liaise with various subspecialties to coordinate care between sites
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, be registered with the NMC, and have extensive experience in the speciality. They will also possess advanced physical assessment skills, teaching and mentorship qualifications, and be able to critically appraise and synthesise research evaluations and audits.
