Job Title: Senior Consultant in Respiratory Infections

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Consultant in Respiratory Infections to join our team at the UK Health Security Agency. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the surveillance and situational awareness of respiratory infections, working closely with our head of team and principal scientists in the acute respiratory infections and tuberculosis unit.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supporting Epidemiological Outputs: You will support the epidemiological outputs of the TARZET division, with a specific focus on acute respiratory infections and tuberculosis.
  2. Public Health Risk Assessment: You will lead on public health risk assessment of these and other threats within the scope of the division's work and associated communications.
  3. Strategic and Operational Planning: You will contribute to and develop strategic and operational plans for acute respiratory infections, tuberculosis, and the wider TARZET division.
  4. Outbreak Investigation and Management: You will collaborate with internal and external partners to investigate, manage, and control outbreaks of acute respiratory infections, tuberculosis, and other outbreaks within the scope of the wider division's remit.
  5. Management Team Member: You will be a member of the Acute Respiratory Infections unit management team and TARZET senior staff team, with involvement in business planning and development of surveillance, research, and training strategies.
  6. Deputising and Leadership: You will deputise where appropriate, using leadership approaches and skills.
  7. Public Health Guidance: You will provide specialist input to public health guidance and supporting documents for the acute respiratory infections, tuberculosis, and other infections within the scope of TARZET's remit.
  8. Staff Supervision: You will supervise Epidemiological Scientists, Information Officers, Epidemiology Fellows, Specialist Registrars in Public Health Medicine, Specialist Trainees, administrative team members, and other staff as appropriate.
  9. Epidemiological Advice: You will provide specialist epidemiological advice in relation to the investigation and control of incidents of acute respiratory infections and tuberculosis, and other infections within the scope of the division's remit.
  10. Emerging Risks Response: You will develop epidemiological response capabilities to assess and respond to emerging acute respiratory infection and tuberculosis risks and other risks within the scope of the division.
  11. Cross-Government Liaison: You will liaise with cross-government stakeholders in relation to situational awareness, public health risk assessment, response advice, and preparation for incidents that may have public health implications.
  12. Laboratory Collaboration: You will collaborate with laboratory specialists to prepare for these infection threats.
