About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Peer Support Worker. As a Peer Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with mental health needs to achieve their recovery goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide peer support and practical assistance to service users and their carers to empower them to regain control over their lives and build connections with their local communities.
  • Work across the adult inpatient pathway, and VCSE, supporting service users to transition between services.
  • Support people to access a variety of individual and group opportunities to ensure a supportive discharge from hospital.
  • Act as a recovery champion across mental health services pathways and act as an ambassador of recovery for the Trust with external agencies and partner organisations.
  • Participate in the on-going development of the role and contribute to the evaluation of the PSW training programme.
Requirements
  • Lived experience of using mental health services.
  • Previous care experience with people who have mental health difficulties.
  • Ability to mobilise across Plymouth throughout the working day.
  • Knowledge of mental health, safeguarding principles, and basic IT skills.
  • Good communication and listening skills, organisational skills, problem-solving skills, and an awareness of maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Willingness to positively share your own life experiences, personal experiences of your own ill health with service users and carers.
  • Ability to problem solve and create innovative solutions to help empower service users.
  • Sensitive understanding of diversity issues and ability to promote anti-discriminatory practice/equal opportunities.
