Advanced Practitioner and Matron Role in Acute Oncology

Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the acute oncology team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust for an advanced practitioner and matron role. The successful candidate will work 50% of the time as an advanced nurse practitioner and 50% as a matron, supporting the acute oncology team and managing the clinical role.

Main Duties

  • Support clinical decisions regarding care in acute oncology and immunotherapy, working closely with medical colleagues to avoid patient admissions.
  • Develop and implement new pathways for patients with toxicities of treatment, working with the same day emergency care teams to reduce admissions to the emergency department.
  • Work as an expert practitioner, overseeing the development of nursing services within acute oncology and immunotherapy, and collaborating with the multi-disciplinary team to improve patient care.
  • Support and line manage the acute oncology and immunotherapy teams, helping to strengthen education and training for multi-disciplinary staff.

Person Specification

  • Registered Nurse with a Master's degree in nursing and advanced clinical practice skills.
  • Experience in cancer nursing and SACT.
  • Cancer or Haematology Nursing Pathway or equivalent.
