Job Title: Adviser (Policy)

About the Role:

The Commonwealth Secretariat is seeking an experienced Adviser to join their Trade, Oceans and Natural Resources Division. As an Adviser, you will play a key role in providing strategic, policy, technical and/or economic advice to Commonwealth Member countries and regional organizations on critical elements of ocean governance and the development of ocean-based economies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage projects under the ocean governance program of the Trade, Oceans and Natural Resources Division
  • Deliver strategic, policy and technical and/or economic advice on ocean governance and ocean-based economies
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to provide expert advice on maritime boundaries and ocean governance
  • Develop and implement projects to support the development of ocean-based economies

Requirements:

  • Post-graduate degree in a relevant area of specialization, with an emphasis on environmental economics, renewable energy technologies, ocean-based industries and/or the management of living and non-living marine resources
  • Minimum of ten years' experience at a senior level relating to maritime boundaries and ocean governance gained in government ministry, as a consultant or in the private industry, in an international context
  • Experience in areas related to trends in international ocean governance, sustainable ocean-based economies and law of the sea issues

The Commonwealth Secretariat is a voluntary association of 52 independent and equal sovereign states. The Trade, Oceans and Natural Resources Division is one of the major policy advisory divisions of the Commonwealth Secretariat, bringing together two key streams of work covering research and advocacy, technical support and joint programming elements of trade, oceans and natural resources in the Commonwealth.
